Prof. K. Karunathilake: Dr. K. Karunathilake, a Sri Lankan is the Professor of Sociology at the University of Kelaniya. He has more than 22 years of experience in university- level teaching, socioeconomic research and training, involuntary resettlement planning and implementation, institutional building, and project formulation and implementation. He has been an international consultant on safeguards, and has worked for the Asian Development Bank and World Bank on several projects in South Asia. He has played a pioneer role in developing courses on involuntary resettlement, social impact assessment, capacity building, and project monitoring and evaluation. He has prepared a Manual on Social and Environmental Safeguards. It is now being widely used by infrastructure projects in Sri Lanka. Dr. Karunathilake has published books and papers on social and development issues in South Asia.
